Ingredients

  • 35 oz. potatoes
  • 2 oz. butter
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 7 oz. Gruyere cheese
  • a pinch of salt and pepper

Method

  1. Peel the raw potatoes and then slice them using a mandoline (to obtain slices of the same size).
  2. Boil the sliced potatoes in lightly salted water for about 5 - 10 minutes, until almost tender.
  3. Drain the potatoes well and then set them aside, to cool down.
  4. Meanwhile, dice the cheese and melt the butter in a small pan.
  5. Coat a heat resistant tray with some of the melted butter.
  6. In the tray, add a layer of sliced potatoes.
  7. Using a spoon, drizzle the melted butter on top of the potatoes.
  8. Next, drizzle the milk on top as well and then add a layer of diced Gruyere cheese.
  9. Bake at 400F for about 15 - 20 minutes, until done.
